 WELCOME!

The Lancashire Heraldry Group was set up to further the study of heraldry both in Lancashire and in general, and also to act as resources for the Lancashire Family History And Heraldry Society to refer questions which arise concerning coats of arms, crests and other items armorial.

WHAT'S WE ARE DOING

Donaldson-Selby Arms at LindesfarneStrangeways Of Cheswick

Welcome to the New website. Still building with much to be done to make it work properly. So please accept my appologises for the pages that have yet been load or don't work properly. Heraldry like other aspects of family history is not limited by boundaries, and many Lancashire people have associations with other areas especially adjacent counties. Soon notes I made from Old Cheshire Churches published in 1947 will be available on the group's website as a download. The lastest inquiry from a Mr Donaldson who lives in Northumbria, has revealed that he was related to the Donaldson-Selby family of Chiswick House(Northumberland) who owned the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and whose arms are in the church there, the research continue, but there are many interesting connections including one between Strangways and Towneley c.1300. We continue to experiment with photo galleries of Lancashire heraldic sites. Chris Ward March 2007

DOWNLOAD Here are some the notes made by Chris Ward your webmaster over a long period they represent only a small portion of the body of information, once again they are a zip file this time you can read them with acrobat reader, please let me know if you have any useful comments.A Lancashire Armorial
